Old newspapers get online launch

Postby dreamon on Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:43 pm

A new initiative to bring old newspapers that pre-date the digital age
to the web has been launched by the search giant Google.

The company has partnered with around 100 newspapers to digitize
them and make scanned copies available online. This means users will
see entire pages of the original paper as they were printed at the time.

"This is huge," said Google's Marissa Mayer. "We're branching into a
new form of content.

It should be interesing to read about the past in that form. There should be some
great stories buried in the past editions.

Who's holding paper copies of old news anymore? Even libraries recycle the papers once the microfilm reels come in.

Or is this a ploy to access hoarders' stacks of paper that have taken over prime living room space?

You never know what a friendly call or post to Google can do for your collection, lil-piggy. The delivery costs might be an issue if any back issues get the company's attention.
