Standing Rock Protests against DAPL

Postby kittydiva on Sat Oct 01, 2016 1:01 am

Has everyone been following the events surrounding the protests against the DAPL by the Standing Rock Sioux and their supporters? Can't believe what's happening.

Later today (10/1) at 3 pm EDT - Noon Pacific or whatever your corresponding time is, there's a call for a global meditation / prayer focusing on this. Hope I can remember...

We'll start with this link, even though I am reading it might be 25 hours away from the site of the protests. ... d3bda.html

And there is a link at the bottom of that article.

EDIT: I am having some trouble finding a local paper that has a website.

How about I add this Wikipedia link:,_North_Dakota

Yes, I noticed the fundraising box that shows up on the Wikipedia site. Maybe that isn't such a bad way to spend money, though.

EDIT #2: This is a lot closer than Brownsville, Texas: ... d7fbc.html

Hello - interesting links, there Speak-Ez -

I've also been reading about this. I'm not sure that it should be given a pass just because it might "create jobs," as that one fellow (Ron Ness) seems to suggest. I find I'm MUCH more sympathetic to the protesters/water defenders than the would-be developers of that pipeline. HE seems to ignore that a lot of decisions about this were not made with full transparency and consultation with "the people." -- I don't have a specific link, but I've read things to that effect in several articles. Common Dreams has a good article I can note here which highlights the struggle this project has highlighted between environmental concerns and jobs: ... real-split

If any are interested in an outlet that seems to follow this protest well, try Unicorn Riot:

Well, I remembered to do the meditation and I, for one, really hope this project gets stopped.

Hi there everyone -

Ya know I think I forgot about the url button thing (and I should know as I'm on another board with this same set up!) If someone fixed it, thanks much! :)

And here's a very good link I didn't include in the last post. It's a good bit of reporting by Lee Fang at The Intercept on the possibility that the oil from the DAPL might not all go for domestic use, which I believe it is supposed to.
