Nature Airliner had a two-part interview published with a Canadian journalist recently. Nice!!
Interview with band Nature Airliner - part 1
February 28th, 2011 8:11 am ET
Nature Airliner is a duo consisting of Eiko Hosaka Tiernan (vocals) and Laurier Tiernan (guitar and vocals), a French-Canadian singer-songwriter. Located in Tokyo, Japan, the band released its first EP in November 2010. It is my pleasure to interview them today.

Cendrine Marrouat: Hello guys, thank you for stopping by. When did you decide to create the band?

Laurier Tiernan: It's a long story but the actual formal founding of this duo happened in June of 2010. That's when we played our first official shows.

Eiko Hosaka Tiernan: We only had one month advance notice to practice for the first show, and this was my first experience as a singer.

CM: I find the name of the band really interesting. Does it have a special meaning?

LT: The name is an anagram for my own name. I am a prolific writer, and not everything that comes out is suited to my solo career (which used to be very pop-punk). I came up with this anagram about two years ago, intending to use it for an acoustic project, and then when we founded this duo officially, we decided to use it because it represents two of our favorite things: nature and travel.

Current contest rules for WorldSings indicates a closing date for entries by October 31, 2012. The finalists may be eligible to play in Las Vegas in December 2012. http://www.worldsings.com/contest-rules

This contest has a 3-year entry period...it started in 2009, was extended to 2010 and times continue to move into the future.

I saw Laurier's latest quest posted on his Facebook page--voice demo for a talent agency. Not knowing what kinds of work that agency usually gets, I'm thinking of music that Laurier might want to consider to show his range:

-a pop song (due to all the packaged music used to sell items) like Beyonce's To All the Single Ladies
-Nature Airliner's Merry Christmas to Our Loved Ones (nice softer folk piece) or Madonna's Miles Away (chorus-another acoustic guitar piece)
-La Vie En Rose where you can roll some consonants
-theme song from a current television series
-the chorus part of Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (energetic, strong rock)

Depending on what you'd like the bulk of your voice work to be, you might not want to do:
-that 78rpm mouse voice a la Chipmunks;
-rap (but hey, if you can copy Zeebra's lines in Do What U Want to Do before it segues to Mummy D (hey Mummy D, are you down with me,..........), it shows vocal range in about 3 lines);
-classical music or musicals (unless you have a favourite just clamouring for a song to be sung in front of strangers)

I know that Jonsi had a song in the movie, We Bought A Zoo, but I did not look around for the song until now. I'll give the song credit for not being formulaic (as North American music tends to be) and the animation kind of goes with the song. http://popdirt.com/jonsi-gathering-stories-video/91868/
The xylophone use at the end creates a feeling of a lullaby.

The red eyes on the creatures do weird me out-very Lord of the Rings in the animated movie version, for the Dark Riders scared me with those same eyes as a kid.
