I feel some dim-witt city bus driver, possibly in Totonto, Ontario or for sue in North America was so busy with his twitter bit that he did not see stopped traffic in front of him & collided with them. That has to be stupid, if Obama does not mind me using his word about a matter in the USA of where he favoured a black professor, in the wrong, against a white Police Sargent.

Get schooled on Twitter ... by UK government
A new microblogging guide for civil servants isn't Hogwarts, but it works.

If you’re still not hep to the Twitter, that new-fangled InterWebs thingy all the kids are talking about, you’re far from alone. A recent LinkedIn Research Network/Harris Poll survey found a whole lot of people who don’t know a re-tweet from a hashtag.

The fact that out 2,025 adults questioned, a whopping 69 percent didn’t feel they knew enough to comment on the hot and happenin’ microblogging site may be a bit of a bummer to all the advertising and marketing researchers hoping to reap the benefits by tuning into Twitter’s top trending topics that may or may not represent the mindset of the masses.

I'm in the crowd of I don't know about twitter and I have no desire to learn how to twitter. A total waste of time.

Morning shows seem to be keen to offer their viewers another way to contact the staff for comments, contests, or just venting on traffic via Twitter. Yet the emails that get sent via computer are often printed out. Paper waste...but viewer comments help to fill air time.

Twitter's down this morning! Denial of service attack brought Twitter to a standstill.

Hacker attack shuts down Twitter
August 06, 2009
Associated Press

NEW YORK – A hacker attack shut down Twitter on Thursday morning, and Facebook also said it was "looking into" possible site problems.

Twitter said in its status blog Thursday that it was "defending against a denial-of-service attack," in which hackers command scores of computers to a single site at the same time, preventing legitimate traffic from getting through.

For users of the fast-growing messaging service, the outage means no tweeting about lunch plans, the weather or the fact that Twitter is down. http://www.thespec.com/News/BreakingNews/article/613559

When it comes to Twitter, Sarah Palin's no follower
November 10, 2009 | 11:06 am

Sarah Palin's memoir "Going Rogue" hits shelves next week, and Palin herself will hit the road, too. She's scheduled to appear in 13 cities and towns in seven days, starting in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Nov. 18 and ending in Orlando, Florida on Nov. 24. The book tour may continue, but no other dates have been announced.

If fans want to follow her book tour, they could try to do so in person -- an enthusiastic fan might be able to get from the Fort Wayne book-signing to the one in Noblesville, Ind., in time to catch her at both sites. Or fans could go the Internet route and friend her on Facebook. And, of course, follow her on Twitter. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2009/11/when-it-comes-to-twitter-sarah-palins-no-follower.html

How many people is SarahPalinUSA following? Exactly zero.

So no one can call Sarah Palin a follower.
:D

Just to add on another article: AP got an advance copy of Palin's book and mentions the behind-the-scenes obstacles that prevented her from doing all she could to help the campaign. So the book seems to be a base-clearing, tell-it-like-it-was record of her experience.

Palin book confirms tension with McCain aides

By Richard T. Pienciak, The Associated Press
NEW YORK - The rumours are true, according to Sarah Palin: The McCain-Palin campaign was not a happy family.

In Palin's "Going Rogue," Palin confirms reports of tension between her aides and those of the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain. The vice-presidential candidate confirms that she had wanted to speak on election night, but was denied the chance and says she was kept "bottled up" from reporters during the campaign.

Palin also writes harshly of CBS anchor Katie Couric, whom she describes as "badgering" and biased. Palin's series of interviews with Couric were widely regarded as disastrous, leaving the impression of an ill-informed candidate who was unsuited for the job. Palin's book

MPs taught Twitter etiquette
By Sonya Bell, THE CANADIAN PRESS

Last Updated: 13th December 2009, 3:16pm
OTTAWA - No tweets allowed about that bagel you had for breakfast. Only a twit would have a staffer tweet in their place.

Those are among the do's and don'ts that parliamentarians are learning as communication firms across Canada leap into the growing business of social media training to help politicians negotiate the minefield of Facebook and Twitter.

Social media is fraught with electoral rewards and risks of embarrassing gaffes going viral, but communications strategist Ken Chapman has a message for politicians who are too timid to tweet. http://www.lfpress.com/news/canada/2009/12/13/12141181.html

Funny how the word "twit" had to be used in the article. The articles answers the question of what technological training for social media the MPs receive.

Hitting the mark with sarcasm
By Andrea Gordon, Living Reporter
Published On Fri Jan 15 2010

The new punctuation mark for sarcasm.
Feel a little sarcasm coming on while you're typing an email or thumbing a text message? Now there's a new tool to guard against offending folks on the receiving end who might not get the joke.

It's called the SarcMark, a new symbol launched this week by Sarcasm Inc. in suburban Detroit. The figure, which looks like a period inside a swirl, can be downloaded for $2 U.S. for use on Windows software and BlackBerrys. (It's not yet available for iPhones.)

"We want to see if we can get it established as a punctuation mark," says Paul Sak, 63, an engineer who formed the new venture with his son Douglas, 35.http://www.thestar.com/living/article/751364--hitting-the-mark-with-sarcasm

It had to happen-a new emoticon for the text crowd and the 21st century. The symbol could take off, if the owners have a way of ensuring that the mark is just used on one electronic gadget per fee.

What does the emoticon look like to you?
-talk to the hand with a dot symbol or baseball catcher's mitt with a ball
-upside down grinning face
-paperclip with an earring
-elephant or other long-ear creature
-a head with waving arms like a person laughing and pointing at you

Man arrested over Twitter airport joke
Mon Jan 18, 7:04 AM
LONDON (AFP) - A man was arrested by anti-terrorism police and suspended from his job after he sent a Twitter message joking that he was going to blow up an airport, a report said Monday.

When heavy snow at Robin Hood airport in Doncaster, northern England, threatened to ruin Paul Chambers' plans to fly to Ireland, he vented his frustration by tapping out a message on the social networking site.

"Robin Hood airport is closed," he wrote, according to The Independent newspaper. "You've got a week and a bit to get your ***** together, otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!!" Closed airport led to angry post

Twitter is for narcissists or does it just seem that way? Why be "on" all the time if your own admiration of self isn't enough? The clincher is that people are using "free" accounts but paying for text/air time on their pocket gadgets. When the concept jumps the shark, a general lament at lost time will surface.

In July last year, there was an item about a tenant using Twitter to comment on the condition of the apartment. The tenant's landlord filed a lawsuit. Here's the outcome:

Twitter apartment mold libel suit dismissed
January 21, 2010 12:55 PM
A judge Wednesday dismissed a libel lawsuit filed last year by a Chicago property firm against a tenant who complained about her "moldy apartment" on Twitter. "Who said sleeping in a moldy apartment was bad for you? Horizon realty thinks it's okay," Amanda Bonnen wrote in her Twitter feed May 12 at 9:08 a.m.

Horizon Group Management, which leased the Uptown apartment to Bonnen, wasn't pleased and filed a libel suit against her saying she "maliciously and wrongfully published the false and defamatory Tweet."

On Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court Judge Diane J. Larsen ordered the case dismissed with prejudice, meaning that Horizon cannot refile the same case. According to Bonnen's attorney, the judge felt the tweet was too vague to meet the legal standards of libel. Libel suit dismissed
