Crown wards in Ontario to get free post-secondary tuition

Postby CielOnTap on Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:06 pm

For children who turn 18 in the foster care system and generalyl age-out of group homes/foster care/supports, they will have a chance to get four years of tuition covered for free at all Ontario universities and eight colleges. Since some Crown Wards (name given to children placed into foster care or with Children's Aid societies) have difficulties finishing high school, let alone post-secondary studies, the new program is to help offset the transition to adulthood for new adults used to having support for their daily needs.

Currently, the new adults struggle to support themselves with work and locate housing-other plans tend to be put on hold while the basics are found or sought.
