Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier held captive for 5 years, has been freed. Israel put a Palestination prisoner transfer (involving hundreds of prisoners)into motion once Shalit was released to the Egyptians.

Israel’s defence minister strongly signalled Sunday that his country was behind an airstrikes in Syria last week, telling a high profile security conference that Israeli threats to take pre-emptive action against its enemies are not empty. “We mean it,” Ehud Barak declared.

Israel has not officially confirmed its planes attacked a site near Damascus, targeting ground-to-air missiles apparently heading for Lebanon, but its intentions have been beyond dispute. During the 22 months of civil war in Syria, Israeli leaders have repeatedly expressed concern that high-end weapons could fall into the hands of enemy Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanese militants.

Smart idea to suggest that, I'm not so sure it was. Sure they are a target in that part of the world, but I can't help but wonder if it's a good move to make the first strike. They opened the "target on their back" window again and not sure that is so smart. Then again, even if they hadn't, there is a real possibility that full blown war in the Middle East is not far away.

Talk about a huge waste of taxpayers money and then he lies about it when caught. Their PM Netanyahu isn't the first and wont be the last to be caught misusing funds. Why do they keep playing that game when no one ever buys their version?

FoxNews -
Officials close to Israel's prime minister says he will use alternate sleeping arrangements when traveling after receiving a sky-high bill for installing a customized bed on a recent flight to London. Channel 10 TV said Netanyahu spent $127,000 in public funds during a five-hour flight to attend Margaret Thatcher's funeral.

Netanyahu's office initially defended the decision, saying the prime minister had a busy schedule ahead of the flight and needed to be fresh for important meetings in Britain. But following a public uproar, officials close to Netanyahu said he had been unaware of the cost, and once informed, he ordered the bed be canceled on all future flights. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Tel Aviv: Former Israeli President Shimon Peres has passed away at the age of 93. Close relatives of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate had earlier rushed to his hospital bedside amid media reports that his condition had deteriorated and he was close to death.

A very long career and according to the news he held every major position over those decades. A force to be reckoned with and clearly very passionate about life and politics. I wonder how Israel will adjust to a world without the man that served them so well for so long.
