Branson's space plane makes force landing in Mesa
by Art Thomason - Jun. 19, 2009 03:55 PM
The Arizona Republic
An experimental plane that billionaire Richard Branson plans use to launch private citizens into space by 2012 made an emergency landing at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Friday.

Pilots called the airport's tower to make the unexpected landing after the actuator alarm on the four-engine, twin-fuselage mother ship activated.

Virgin Galactic's WhiteKnight Two had been en route to Las Cruces, N.M., to fly over the ground breaking ceremony for Spaceport America the world's first commercial spaceport built to launch private citizens into space for profit when it was forced to land. http://www.azcentral.com/community/mesa/articles/2009/06/19/20090619mr-whiteknight0620.html

The $200 million publicly-funded spaceport was unveiled Friday with fanfare and is expected to serve as a flying launchpad for sending private citizens on short flights into space.
Considering how cash-strapped Arizona is, why is a private enterprise needing a publicly funded spaceport?

Ground has been broken on the construction site of Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport.

They need to pray this doesn't turn into a white elephant. The construction workers will be happy for a steady pay check but what about the rest of New Mexico? They are hurting and probably wish the money was spread around a bit better. Heads will roll if this project fails.

New Mexico was place for UFOs or stories of UFOs.
New spaceport design is cousin to B2 bomber? Same kind of swooping blob style.

Desert creatures get condos now? All that ground to be graded for pavement and hot air. Who thinks to run grader past stage of VIPs without handkerchieves or hats? Odd.

Final frontier: Crowd sees spaceship launcher fly

Associated Press
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Hundreds of earthlings turned their faces to the sky Monday to see an airplane built to launch a ship into space, watching the gleaming white craft soar overhead.

The twin-fuselage craft named WhiteKnightTwo, looking like two planes connected at the wing tips, circled the runway several times before touching down at the Experimental Aircraft Association's Air Venture annual gathering.

It was the first glimpse the public had of the plane, which was made by Virgin Galactic as part of its effort to jump-start commercial space travel. Its designers, engineer Burt Rutan and British billionaire Sir Richard Branson, watched and smiled from the edge of the tarmac.

Oh boy, to be on the team dealing with the legalities of making Sir Branson's dream projects real ones. Or the finance team--what rainy day funds are set aside if government money is not available for the projects?

Anyhow, the locals have seen the new look of space travel, funded by their state government in part.

So how long can the American Govt be the money people to take others up into the air to the moon, to mars in the belief of so many one has to wonder? Though I would hate for someone to come out with facts of money spent or wasted on space so far. All of this another silly dream like a teener tends to do & believe it will come about in no time.

i guess some people have been under the impression that all around the world countries have been in deep money problems that will take ages to get back to normal if it ever will.

How did we miss this article about Mr. Branson's second port of launch, from Sweden? He's everywhere, he's everywhere.

Space tourism to take off in Kiruna
Published: 12 Dec 09 12:48 CET

If all goes to plan, billionaire Richard Branson’s spaceships will take off with tourists on board in 2012 – from Kiruna in the far north of Sweden.

“Space tourism sounds like science fiction, but we are talking about only a number of years into the future,” Johanna Bergström-Roos, from the Esrange space centre in Kiruna, told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

Earlier last week, billionaire Richard Branson paraded his company Virgin Galactic’s specially designed tourist ship ‘SpaceShipTwo’, which will take tourists out into space. Virgin Galactic, has selected two 'spaceports', from where tourists will be able to launch into space. One of the spaceports is in New Mexico, while the other is the Sweden Spaceport, in Kiruna. http://www.thelocal.se/23812/20091212/

In my way of thinking this is all for multi-millioners that want to play with their money. Not for the local folk I can assure you to even think along such crazy ways of life not in the line of a human being be we poor or with a minor bit of money.

Obviously there are the super rich to the normal folk in this world that are asked to donate money to the poor people suffering in their countries.

Something is not wrong in my way of thinking.

Still making news headlines, that Mr. Branson and his space plane project. Need he spend more time with airline trouble, as passengers stuck on plane for hours last Friday?

A private suborbital spaceship built for the space tourism firm Virgin Galactic made its first flight with a crew onboard Thursday as it soared over California's Mojave Desert beneath its enormous mothership.

The commercial spaceliner called VSS Enterprise, one of the company's fleet of SpaceShipTwo spacecraft did not try to reach space in the test flight. Instead, it stayed firmly attached to its WhiteKnightTwo VMS Eve mothership.
