To Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before!

A NASA official may have made a 35-million-mile slip of the tongue.

The director of NASA's Ames Research Center in California casually let slip mention of the 100-Year Starship recently, a new program funded by the super-secret government agency, DARPA. In a talk at San Francisco's Long Conversation conference, Simon “Pete” Worden said DARPA has $1M to spend, plus another $100,000 from NASA itself, for the program, which will initially develop a new kind of propulsion engine that will take us to Mars or beyond.

There's only one problem: The astronauts won't come back.

Here I was hoping William Shatner was finally going to retire from show business and publicity--what a letdown...

People need to be asking their politicians running for those precious seats next Tuesday, what they know about DARPA's true existence and budget. Is it not possible that the military budget spent by the US govt. is the main debt issue for Americans? I mean unemployment benefits are not meeting the needs of folks who need them. Where are the jobs? How is a one-way ticket to Mars a good idea?

Finally William Shatner, if we are speaking about the same person, has this show of his that I should name properl, but it is darn funny to watch from start to finish. He leaves you WONDERING.

I do like the build up to the above when at a doctor's place telling the doctor about the big E on the top but the rest down the list he called something else & I agree with him.

yukon, are you saying they cannot come down for if so then many things could be happening to end their lives.

You will NOT find me interested in being up in space. Most I will do, is take a ride on an aircraft occassionally.

It looks that way Smitty. No shore leave on the way. Just make it to the final destination and once you land your
there to stay. No side trips off world.

The story seems straight out of the Aliens movie set--people sent to Mars etc and meet an alien that is out to get them. First astronauts will be either people who feel they have lived out their lives on Earth and are ready to see the new world of space or they will be other mammals--bet on some form of cryogenic sleep platforms.
You'll be smiling if you sing some songs.

Apt title for people who have Secret Santa colleagues/acquaintances for whom to shop-boldly going to shop without much direction as to what gifts would best match the recipients' interests. I call this activity a waste of money--forced socialization, then not always getting some joy over the gift choice.

No wonder so many organizations figure out new ways to fundraise--some gifters would rather donate to a cause in someone's name and help another person than buy one more gift mug or treats.

One step closer to Star Trek technology coming to life. Now the only question that needs to be answered is if
it can actually work.

It is hard that some deformed memories in wanting to take this impossible flght & never return. For do people also feel in mind they will be one of the many heroes & never forgotten?

II realize a lot at NASA', are a bit strange, but are they jumping up and down about this stupid move by a few with bewildered minds.
