Visting Toronto, Ontario and want to find a place that shows the World Cup matches? Here's a list of 10 places to visit (there may be reservation or minimum order requirements) in Toronto for soccer action!

Toronto bars are getting month-long permission to start serving alcohol at 9 a.m. during the 2018 FIFA World Cup (June 14-July 15) given host country Russia is seven hours ahead where the games are played.

Councillor Cesar Palacio, who recommended the motion to council which passed it unanimously, says the soccer tournament resonates not only with local residents and businesses in his ward of Davenport but is watched around the globe.

I'm ready for beer and burgers if they are an excuse to enjoy while watching sports on tv. Not a big soccer fan myself but hey, I'd like some company while eating. I'll stick with American brews for now.

Russia is playing tomorrow? I may allow some Russian salad dressing on my side salad.

Put plenty of burgers on the grill, burntfare, because North America got the rights to host World Cup 2026! That means Europeans will be 5-6h ahead of us whilst South Korea and Japan are 12 hr or more ahead.

The hosting decision likely opens the door to Canada finally returning to the men's world stage — a widely expected scenario as co-host that has yet to be officially confirmed. But with the tournament expanding from 32 to 48 teams in 2026, tripling the hosts would not cause as many ripples.

Officials have already talked of staging three games, one in each of the three countries, to kick off the tournament.

That's a reason to drink a beer tomorrow in Toronto during World Cup action! Woohoo!

Umm, where is the coverage of the women's international friendly match that was held in Hamilton, Ontario this week? WOMEN'S SOCCER is big in Canada.

The host nation's president is just there for appearances' sake at the opening game. He was not really involved except for obtaining the sporting event for Russia.

The same columnist wrote about how North America's 2026 event might have problems after everyone's cheering dies down and the practical matters take over.

Japan won its match with Columbia, 2-1, this morning! Wait, there's a psychic parrot involved with game predictions?

Chance reading of today's National Post (paper also owns the Toronto Sun which shares some features with the National Post) tonight led me to a World Cup soccer columnist Kurtis W. Larson. He wrote today about reality beyond Moscow-the World Cup shines in the capital but life is not so gleaming outside the capital.

He also writes a Dear Diary feature about the World Cup: http://nationalpost.com/sports/soccer/dear-diary-the-suns-kurt-larson-takes-you-through-daily-life-at-the-2018-world-cup-2/wcm/f6ba8da2-2afd-4c92-8678-98a110824913?video_autoplay=true

Argentina 0- Croatia 3 in this afternoon's game. I seem to recall this is at least the second World Cup where Lionel Messi fails to score during matches. Think it's a sign he cannot deliver.

The coach for the Argentinian team took the blame.

Now, some thoughts from the Canadian who was key to getting the 2026 World Cup to Canada:

Current match scores for FIFA 2018: https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/

How odd that Iran and Portugal tied at 1-1 today. Either Iran had strong defense or Portugal had some play issues.
Poland is now out of the World Cup after losing (0) to Columbia (3).

Germany is out of the World Cup while Japan and 15 other teams work through knock-out stage games.

France moves into the quarter-finals with its 4-3 win over Argentina today. http://torontosun.com/sports/soccer/world-cup-france-rolls-over-argentina-makes-quarterfinals/wcm/46c7a7da-b043-4d21-aa6b-fdea8b8cfb21
