TWENTY20 has turned cricket on its head; now it is turning the bat around, with a revolutionary design to
enable batsmen to hit the ball with both sides of the blade.

Batsmen, including Andrew Symonds, have been experimenting in practice with using the back of the bat
but have been restricted by its angular shape. Now Gray-Nicolls has confirmed development of a prototype
with a smaller, pressed hitting area on the reverse side.

The bat maker Stuart Kranzbuhler doubts Test batsmen would even consider the new model - but young hitters,
looking for an advantage in Twenty20 cricket, are already interested.

For those that play the sport would you try this new bat?

An imposing century by New Zealand opener Jamie How shone like a beacon on a dark opening day of the Australian tour at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday.

How blazed 170, his highest first-class score, in New Zealand's total of 266 as he saved his side from embarrassment against New South Wales a week before the first test in Brisbane.

The Central Districts opener faced 272 deliveries in his memorable 332-minute knock, and hit 13 fours and six sixes before he was last out, caught at extra cover trying to hit out.

Ganga, Barath hit half-centuries as T&T trounces US
GEORGETOWN, Barbados–T&T stamped their superiority over the United States by romping to a comfortable six-wicket win in their fourth round WICB Cup one-day match yesterday.

Playing at the Enmore Community Centre ground on the East Coast Demerara, T&T were inspired by two impressive half-centuries from skipper Daren Ganga and 18-year-old Adrian Barath.

Chasing a competitive 187 for victory from the allocation of 50 overs, T&T coasted to their target off 38 overs for the lost of four wickets with Ganga hitting 79 and Barath stroking 66.

Southee helps Black Caps take charge

BRISBANE- An inspired selection and a paceman's paradise at the Gabba helped New Zealand stun Australia and offer them
a decent scrap in the first cricket test.

Led by 19-year-old Tim Southee who ripped through Australia's top-order, New Zealand dismissed the home side for 214 as
vice-captain Michael Clarke's innings of 98 saved their blushes.

Black Caps openers Aaron Redmond and Jamie How survived a tricky five overs from Brett Lee and Stuart Clark under the
Gabba lights to be seven without loss, and a fiery second day in store with more overnight rain forecast.

Cricket: Moles named Black Caps coach
Updated 12:27PM Tuesday Nov 25, 2008

Former Warwickshire batsman Andy Moles was today appointed Cricket New Zealand's new coach for the Black Caps.

Moles will takeover from current coach John Bracewell next week and has been given the job until the 2011 World Cup.

His first task will be against the West Indies who arrive in New Zealand next month.

Bracewell was originally going to stay in the job until April but will step down after the second test against Australia in Adelaide starting on Friday.

Englishman Moles, 47, has just started his third season as coach of New Zealand state side Northern Districts, taking them from bottom to top of the State Championship in his first season in charge.

Nice way to get a new job by being noticed for bringing a team up the ranks. Guess Moles will have some expectations for outcomes for his new team.

England to leave India before returning for Tests,
AP
Friday,November 28, 2008 10:09:16 AM

England's cricket squad will fly home on Friday in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai before returning to India to play two Test matches as planned.

The England and Wales Cricket Board said Thursday that the players will be back in India in time for the first Test in Ahmedabad on December 11, with the second match the following week set to be moved from Mumbai to another venue in the south of the country.

England had been set to stay at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace hotel, which was targeted in the attacks, ahead of the second Test.

"Both the ECB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India have made assurances that the two Test matches will go ahead," the ECB said in a statement.

Cricket: Intriguing questions remain as axe swings
4:00AM Monday Dec 08, 2008
By David Leggat

Four players axed, four in and at least that many intriguing questions raised on the New Zealand squad for the two tests against the West Indies.

Of the quartet dropped - Aaron Redmond, Peter Fulton, Tim Southee and Chris Martin - the last name is the eyebrow-raiser.

He took six wickets in the two tests in Australia, but the selection panel, Glenn Turner, Dion Nash and John Wright, want more out of him beyond good work when the ball is hard and new. A question mark has been raised over his full fitness, with a suspicion he's slightly down on pace. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10546939

Imran accuses India of double standard for scrapping tour

Imran Khan on Thursday accused India of double standard behaviour by cancelling its proposed tour of Pakistan early next year while going out of the way to ensure that the English team return for the Test series after the Mumbai terror attacks.

"I feel Pakistan is hard done by the decision. It is double standard by India. It is not good for the two cricket boards and for the two countries," said the former Pakistan skipper reacting to Indian government's decision to cancel the tour today.

It has been awhile since I have seen the former cricket player's name in the news. He is a politican currently in Pakistan, I understand.

Zimbabwean cricket chiefs on sanctions list

THE Federal Government has extended its sanctions on supporters of the Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe,
to include the heads of Zimbabwe Cricket, a move which will put international cricket authorities under more pressure
to downgrade links with the country.

The sanctions, which the Government gazetted earlier this week, add another 75 people and four companies to the
list of Zimbabweans banned from visiting or having financial dealings with Australia.

Most of the newcomers on the blacklist are senior Zimbabwean government, military and security officials and close
relatives of senior members of Mr Mugabe's Government and his ZANU-PF political party. But, for the first time,
the Government has added the president of Zimbabwe Cricket, Peter Chingoka, and its chief executive, Ozias Bvute.
