The cost of Nutella likely to rise due to poor hazelnut crop

Postby CielOnTap on Thu Aug 21, 2014 9:05 am

The chocolatey and nutty protein spread gets most of its hazelnuts from Turkey, where this year's hazelnut harvest is not faring too well. The cost of the hazelnuts could increase the spread's retail cost at the supermarket or corner store. One of the larger chocolate manufacturers has staved off some of the potential problem by buying partial ownership of a Turkish food processor that handles Turkish hazelnuts.

Some cookies and cakes require hazelnuts. Could be some seasonal treats that might be rather pricey this year if the crop situation means low supply and high demand (=$$$ to someone).
Frozen? Not I. Love hot drinks and ice rinks.

Nutella baked goods are everywhere and it seems recipes for using the spread continue to keep coming. Fastest way to enjoy Nutella is on bread-no wait time.

Besides, most chocolate eaters know of hazelnuts and chocolate-they go together in bars, cookies and pastries. It's high season for chocolate with holiday baking on the minds of many who celebrate Christmas in North America.

If you try making your own nut butters, hazelnuts remain rather pricey at the stores in produce or bulk bin sections.
That's princess to you.

Two tweaks to the Nutella recipe is not about the hazelnuts (remember the high costs of the nuts last year) but about the skim milk and sugar content.

Let's say that some fans are upset.

Hey, if there were less hazelnuts, then there'd be something to get upset about. Protein-check. So the spread is lighter...it's still a spread you can eat with a spoon. Still a Nutella fan.
