Still going ... Energizer Bunny to turn 20
Pink drummer regarded as an icon in the advertising trade

Turns out he really does just keep going and going.

The Energizer Bunny, the symbol of battery maker Energizer Holdings Inc., debuted in commercials in 1989 and has,
well, kept going ever since.

Now entering his 20th year, the advertising icon has become famous enough that people who persevere beyond reasonable
expectation are often referred to, or call themselves, the "Energizer Bunny." Among the many references from politicians:

Ha, ha-the advertising agency got some extra press coverage as a result of the 20th birthday for Mr. Pink Bunny.

One day, expect that the drum will become some more modern instrument. However, the drum catches attention-everyone looks to see what the sound is all about.

New Year twins celebrate birthday

Twin sisters, believed to be the oldest in Britain, are celebrating their 101st birthdays.

Betty Richards and Jenny Pelmore, who live a mile apart in Truro, Cornwall, were delivered by a doctor who arrived
on horseback on New Year's Day, 1908.

The twins, who have lived in Cornwall for more than 50 years, said good health and keeping active was their secret to long life.

Mrs Pelmore has recently bought herself a new car. "I'm still driving and my new car is a Mitsubishi," she told BBC News.

"It's got lovely high seats, does nearly 85 miles to the gallon and is very comfortable - I'm very proud of it."

Scots celebrate bard's birthday

Thousands of people have taken part in events to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard.

The celebrations were led by First Minister Alex Salmond. It also marked the launch of a year-long programme of events which the Scottish Government hopes will raise the country's profile.

A procession took place in Dumfries and there were further events which took place in Alloway, Burns' birthplace. Sunday's events began with Mr Salmond attending a church service in Alloway, while Culture Minister Linda Fabiani and the Duke of Buccleuch took part in another commemorative event in Dumfries.

Mr Salmond later attended a wreath-laying ceremony at a statue of Burns in Ayr and then went on to the Dumfries lantern procession attended by thousands.

Darwin's Kin, Admirers, Opponents Mark 200th Birthday

LONDON — It's well known that Charles Darwin's groundbreaking theory of evolution made many people furious because it contradicted the Biblical view of creation.

But few know that it also created problems for Darwin at home with his deeply religious wife, Emma.

Darwin held back the book to avoid offending his wife, said Ruth Padel, the naturalist's great-great-granddaughter.

"She said he seemed to be putting God further and further off," Padel said in her north London home. "But they talked it through, and she said, 'Don't change any of your ideas for fear of hurting me.'"

Oldest Nobel laureate turns 100

he Italian scientist and oldest living Nobel laureate, Rita Levi-Montalcini, is celebrating her 100th birthday. Despite her age, she still works every day at the European Brain Research Institute which she founded in Rome.

She is described as the grand old lady of the Italian Senate, where she became a senator for life in 2001. The scientist, whose family were Jewish, told the BBC that Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime was partly to thank for her career.

Earth Day-check to see if your grocery store is changing over to a fee per plastic bag. Today is the day for some stores to start asking for 5 cents per bag.

Not all tote bags are alike-I detest the plastic like bags with graphics-feel is not right. The black bags made from pop bottles is ok-can fold them up -but once a thread snags, expect to have to replace the bag soon. Then there are totes insulated for taking home frozen food items-they cost more than the regular tote bags. Check them all out and see what suits your home life.

Jet Li-he's the action star! Busy guy-charity, films, and other good things. Hope to see him play a character outside of the usual action roles, as he has range.

Birthdays can be events with mixed feelings, depending on how the birthday persons see another year-highlights, regrets, hellos and goodbyes. Good that you have managed to keep in touch during the years!

Canada's Dionne quintuplets born 75 years ago Thursday
1 hour, 57 minutes ago
By The Canadian Press

TORONTO - Today marks the 75th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous Dionne quintuplets.

Annette, Cecile, Emilie, Marie and Yvonne Dionne were born in 1934 to an impoverished couple in the small town of Callander, Ont., south of North Bay.
Today also marks National Multiple Births Awareness Day.

The day was established in 2005 by the organization Multiple Births Canada to coincide with the Dionne quints' birthdate.
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0905 ... quints75th

I remember reading a book on the quintuplets; though Quintland helped to finance their expenses, the psychological impact of being separate from family affected their relations with other family members. There was a television movie on Canadian television about the quintuplets. Roy Dupuis played Mr. Dionne in the movie.

A few years ago, a son of one of the surviving quintuplets had a press release on his mother's and aunts' lives--they shunned publicity in their adult years.

The UK's oldest man and one of Britain's two surviving WWI veterans has turned 113.

Henry Allingham joined the Royal Navy Air Service in September 1915 before transferring to the RAF in April 1918.

The Royal Navy hosted a birthday party on HMS President in London for his family, close friends and members of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. Mr Allingham, who lives in East Sussex, said he was looking forward to being a teenager again.

The birthday is another landmark for a man who is the last surviving founder member of the RAF and whose life has spanned three centuries and six monarchs. He was born in Clapham, south London, but later moved to Sussex. He stayed in his Eastbourne home until the age of 110 when he moved to St Dunstan's care centre for blind ex-service personnel in Ovingdean, near Brighton.

There are a few rock documentary films that would make ideal background noise for a party gathering for the guitar celebrants. Then there is Wayne's World for easy chuckles.

The actors: poolside or picnic style celebration-why be indoors in a restaurant where the press can see you?
